Future Cup
The last time India got past the hurdle of batting second and winning against Australia was way back in 1998 @ Sharjah, in a match made famous by Sachin Tendulkar's outstanding 134 on his 25th birthday !! India now have won just one ODI match Vs the Aussies in Four Years when they beat them at Chandigarh.
Of course, Australia had an off-day at Chandigarh. Ricky Ponting’s bowlers are unlikely to send down 31 wides in a match for many moons to come. Australia perhaps also got some rough decisions from the umpires.
Australia have also won each of the nine games in which they have scored more than 300 against India. This is a phenomenal record indeed. Their consistency is out of the top draw. Almost in all the the matches of this series, Aussies have been reduced to 120 odd for four, Yet they managed to squeeze thro and end up scoring six runs an over with stellar contributions from Symonds,Haddin,Hopes and Hayden. Mind you, Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting and Brad Hodge have not looked in top nick. Indians on the contrary failed to capitalise on the start provided by Sachin and Sourav in the Nagpur ODI and lost the match. 140/1 in 25 overs, with one powerplay to be used, everyone would back India to win. Lack of application by the Indian batsmen proved too costly. Why on earth, Dravid was moved up and down the order. Can you imagine Kallis or Ponting being moved up/down in the batting line up. The Indian batting — whether at Kochi, Vadodara or Nagpur — has displayed an alarming tendency to collapse under the pressures of chasing.
Indian team’s fielding — to do some plainspeak — was simply atrocious. It was ragged and embarrassingly butter-fingered. You can't win matches consistently when you drop those absolute dollies!! If someone believes that Dinesh Karthik is the next Jonty Rhodes,we ought to be living in a la-la land. Aussies have developed a thumb rule that "hit to ramesh powar and run two". You could probably replace powar with any of the bowlers !!
Cricket is not just four's and Sixes...There is a critical element called running between the wickets. I just wonder when this Team india is going to learn those.
India need to score around 7 runs in an over in the last 15 overs of Nagpur match. They never looked for Ones's and Two's!! Incredible Indeed :-)
Grim jokes circulate on the web; humour keeps beeping on the mobile regarding the Indian Bowling!! Consistently leaking 10 runs an over in the last 10 overs.
As Ian Chappell pointed out, Sreeshanth would probably end up his career with the bank balance exactly the same when he started his career. What is this guy doing in the cricket field!! Celebrating the dismissal of a batsman in the 48th over when he scored 80 odd and his own team is starring down the barrel. India is developing a clone of Akthar. RP Singh was not picked in couple of games!! I just wonder what the selection policy is?
Barely couple of weeks ago , Mumbai became stand-still with the so-called new Team India on a high with a great win in the Slam-bang-lottery cup(Read Tonti-Tonti Championship :-))
Now, A few thousand tall trees might have been sacrificed too, to address the dismal performance of the Indians in the Future Cup,in print media!! Ah, what a foony business cricket is, as Mr. Geoffrey Boycott might say.
There is no shame in losing to Australia provided the lessons are learnt well. The last day-night encounter in Mumbai has now been reduced to academic interest but Dhoni & Co will look for a consolation win to reduce the margin.
Dhoni might just be thinking 50overs is just too much. May be he could have a word with ICC for a 10-Ten Championship :-)
