Sydney Test Fiasco : Spirit of the Game
Hi BCCI,
Anil Kumble accusing Australia of not playing in the "spirit of the game", revived memories of Bill Woodfull's infamous Bodyline statement 75 years ago, after Ricky Ponting's side pulled off the incredible 16th Consectutive win at SCG with only seven balls to spare, does it not look ridiculous?. What is harder to fathom is , it came from the person who himself breached the Spirit of the Game,by using deliberate time wasting tactics in the field on the last day, and then the No 11 batsmen came out with two right handed gloves in a bid to waste further time, players taking 5 minutes to get to the crease(He should have been given Timed Out. Is itn't?) None was as ridiculous as the same Indian Captain, who appealed for one of Hussey's cover drive earlier in the day!!! Does all these things come under "Spirit of the Game" , BCCI?
You remains silent about that.
If the ace leg spinner is hell bent on the Aussies not playing the game in the "Spirit of the Game", then don't we need to look no further than our own history which suggested, 1) None of their players bribed the coach/selector to get into the team 2) None of their captains was involved in doctoring of the pitches 3) None of their players faked the injury and played the test match, when they were clearly unfit, 4) None of their opening batsman came out of the tour mid-way, when they had differences with the board, 5) None of their captains pulled out of the test match in the last minute just because the curator never prepared the pitch of his liking 6) None of their captains came late for the toss 7) None of their players were banned for excessive appealing. Don't you think, the aforementioned facts clearly depicts, our cricketers themselves can never ever be called the "Holy-Cows" ?
You remains silent about that.
When you know you are out and you don't walk, it is cheating. Call it anything else is pure hogwash; If that is the case, Anil could well have a look at the Last ODI in Mumbai last month as well as the 1983 WC Vs England, to name a few. Sunil Gavaskar admitted that he nicked the ball in 1983 WC Vs England and he never walked. He scored a "breezy" 36 Not out of Just 60 Overs !!! And Murali Karthik who confessed at the end of the match he nicked it, helped India to win the match. !!! Indians are no walkers themselves !! It didnt matter to the Indian Cricketers if Murali Karthik walked or not during the 7th ODI in the recent ODI series between India and Australia. We didn't portray Murali Karthik as a cheater but as an Indian Hero. Then why does it matter if Symonds walked or not?
You remains silent about that.
The Indians complain about two catches claimed by Australians in the match, but remain mute about a catch that captain-in-waiting Mahendra Singh Dhoni claimed in the Test against England. The umpire gave batsman Kevin Pietersen out when Dhoni appealed, but the decision had to be changed when replays showed the ball clearly bounced first.
You remains silent about that.
One of the most famous was Harbhajin's Singh's action to defy an umpire and swear after he was clean-bowled by Kevin Pietersen. With the keeper standing up to the stumps, it is arguable that Singh could claim the keeper's gloves had lightly grazed the stumps, but the umpire had clearly indicated Singh was out and it is one of very few crickets incidents where a clean-bowled decision had been referred to a third umpire.Singh can also be heard uttering the explitive "word" during the proceedings.
You remains silent about that.
Does this not "Double-Standards" ? There was another incident when Gavaskar threatened to take his team out off the field, just because he was given an incorrect decison. Indian Cricketers are by no means "the saints" by any stretch of the imagination !! When I last checked, Gavaskar,Karthik,Dhoni,Harbajan never played a cricket match with the Baggy Green Cap !! Iam sure you will also comprehend this fact !!
If Kumble and Co, feel they have been let down by Australia in the "Spirit of Game", don't you think, they should probably book the flight and proceed to Bermuda, the ONLY team, which they managed to beat in the WC 2007. Iam pretty certain, he won't complain there. Don't you think, BCCI should make an honest attempt to clean up its back yard first before make sour grape claims that others are cheats and liars.
